The concept of having a separate subwoofer cabinet, a separate power module and a separate optional crossover module is an elegant, stylish and effective system that allows high fidelity, flexibility of placement and greater long term reliability over other 1-piece active subs.

The subwoofer is built around a single, high-powered 10” woofer, arranged internally inside a 16” cube cabinet which simulates a low frequency filtered, bandpass design.

This cabinet design internally compresses and de-activates excessive cone movements - because the woofer works into a fixed mass of air, thus audible distortions due to overdriving are virtually eliminated. Furthermore, this system, unlike conventional reflex systems, protects the woofers from subsonic/infrasonic frequency distortion - typically afflicting subwoofers when reproducing home theatre bass. In any case, overdriving the high-powered 10” woofer to start with - is a task in itself.

The efficiency of the system is maintained by an intelligent design of the parameters of the bandpass chamber, manipulated so that a correct and usable bandwidth, that is most appropriate for music and home theatre, is available without stress or unnecessary over-excursion. This is unlike other subwoofers that claim high power ratings on their amplifiers and speakers, but the total usable output is restricted in it’s final audible range. The Q-bic is capable of a stunning 119dB in-room loudness from 40Hz to 120Hz, please compare with other subwoofers in this price range and hear the difference for yourself...

The Crossover of the Qbic is now available as a separate module, as a small add-on box. This black box is supplied when the subwoofer is used with a stereo amplifier, and can effectively sum the channels to mono, and uses high quality cascaded 24 dB/Oct Linkwitz Riley Crossovers at points which are matched to partner with any Lithos Satellite. Keeping all active components separate, with individual power supplies, prevents interference and component crosstalk. Another advantage of this completely modular approach, is that, when the subwoofer is used with a A/V reciever, then the crossover is not needed, this brings down the cost of components - and eliminates dual crossover circuits in the active signal path.

This is the thoughful and intelligent approach to loudspeaker design that is the hallmark of Lithos, providing modular, flexible and upgradable solutions, so that you spend for what you need, and in the process, eliminate unnecessary componentry, which effectively improves the quality of overall design.

The power module comes as a separate component and is mounted in your equipment rack. This prevents excessive vibration, caused by the constant air pressure - from causing modulation distortion in the power module. Just think, would you like to keep your a/v amplifier directly on top of your speakers? Imagine what would that would do to the internal parts of the amplifier in the long run. Now think of all those active subwoofers with the power module in the subwoofer cabinet!

The power module for the Qbic is a high current, high spec stereo design and it’s performance is guaranteed by more than 20V RMS gain, 30V / micro-s Slew Rate, >200:1 Damping Factor and < 0.02% THD. Balanced Input and Output per channel make adding on a second module / subwoofer, lossless. This amplifier operates in Bridge Mobe - delivering 200W RMS @ 8 Ohms

The power module is fully protected from accidental short circuits and DC offsets.

The subwoofer cabinet is made from 3/4” thick HDF (high density fibreboard). This complex cube construction with the internal baffle acts as a rigid shell, preventing vibration and cabinet energy storage effects - reducing unwanted resonances to a minimum. Port and cabinet design is optimized for deep, tight bass even at the lowest volume levels.

Cabinet design is done on high end CAD based systems, with structural and acoustic optimization. Cabinets are then manufactured on world class woodworking lines

The subwoofer driver - 1 x 10” - works around a rigid coated paper material which is ribbed and prevents flexing, providing the musicality associated with paper as a cone material as well as ensuring adequate stiffness for break-up free excursion due to the ribbed coating. A large 4-layer voice coil and a ventilated pole piece ensure high power handling by dissipating excess heat quickly.

The Qbic comes with a standalone power module and is capable of delivering high fidelity bass with consummate ease, even in large listening areas, due to true high RMS power handling and very high efficiency. By eliminating unnecessary electronics and adding all products as separate modules and using a single high powered 10” driver, the Qbic is intelligently designed to deliver bass like never before, at an unbeatable price-to-performance ratio.
